Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has told Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) to pipe down, days after the Muslim NGO trained its guns on non-Muslims.

The former prime minister said comments by Isma's leaders were not constructive.

His admonitions were in response to Isma labelling the Chinese as "trespassers" and calling for the Islamic penal code hudud to be imposed on all Malaysians.

"He should keep the comments to himself. They are not doing any good to this country," he said at a press conference after launching the "Reminiscences of Insurrection: Malaysia's Battle against Terrorism 1960-1990" a coffee table book by Lt Col (R) Mohd Azzam Mohd Hanif Ghows, at Wisma Perwira in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Saying Isma's statements were not helping to maintain peace, Dr Mahathir said the Chinese in the country are Malaysian citizens who have rights.

"We don't need people to instigate racial riots and things like that," he said.
On Isma's proposal that hudud should be applied to all, the country's longest-serving premier pointedly told the group to "follow the Quran".

"If he had read the Quran properly, it says God does not like people who create huru hara or turmoil.
"So he should follow the Quran," Dr Mahathir said, referring to Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman’s latest remarks that the Islamic penal code should be imposed on all Malaysians, and not only Muslims.

Dr Mahathir said those who cause racial and religious tensions have failed to learn from history.
"People are not learning from the past. There is no benefit in causing tension, confrontation and instability. Why fight? You will kill each other in the end, and what do you get?"

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was in a difficult situation in trying to quell the rising racial religious tensions.

"He's trying to do a good job but it's a very difficult situation. You (voters) did not give him a strong enough mandate," he said, referring to the last year’s general election results which saw the ruling Barisan Nasional government repeating its weak perfomance, returning to power with simple majority.

"On the one hand you want liberalisation, and when we are liberal, it is misused. If you take action, we are accused of not being liberal," he added. - May 9, 2014.

Pendapat Anak tak Seharusnya Sama dengan Ayah...

We need more Dyanas in Malaysian politics, says Marina

Despite the criticism surrounding Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir has praised the DAP candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election for sticking to her guns, and questioned the Barisan Nasional on its lack of young, female candidates

“I don’t care what party she is from. She is young, female and we don’t see that around... well, give me the BN equivalent of that.
“Have you got any of that? Or someone? I support young women,” she told The Malaysian Insider today.

The daughter of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir said the rising number of outstanding Malay women politicians were mostly from the opposition, with the most prominent being PKR's Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Nurul Izzah is the daughter of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

While Marina declined to comment on remarks from Dyana's mother yesterday, which had gone viral on social media, she did praise Dyana for standing up to her ideals.

The Malaysian Insider reported yesterday Dyana’s mother Yammy Samat, an Umno member, said she had tried to raise Dyana like Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, but her daughter ended up being like Marina.

Yammy was replying to Dr Mahathir’s criticism of allowing her daughter to ‎contest on a DAP ticket.

"I tried to raise her like‎ Mukhriz, but she ended up like Marina. I give all my children the freedom to choose what is right and wrong. Dyana is old enough to think as it is," she told The Malaysian Insider yesterday.

Dyana, a 27-year-old Perak-born lawyer and UiTM graduate, joined the DAP in 2011. She rose to prominence for being the political-secretary to DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, for being the DAP candidate in the Teluk Intan by-election, and for speaking out against Umno supreme council member Datuk Razali Ibrahim on the pro-Bumiputera policies of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

Her rebuttal earned her praises from Marina, who in a Facebook post on Monday defended Dyana, saying that she is a “smart” individual who was well ahead of “most politicians”.

“Very smart girl this... she can think, she can articulate, she can write. That’s three up from most politicians already,” said Marina.
“Very few of the top gun politicians write their own speeches, let alone any articles.

“In any case, why are people so against her because she is young? (Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib Razak was 26 when he first became a minister. Dyana’s 27 and only vying for a parliamentary seat. We need more young people because they bring fresh ideas,” she said.

Dyana will be facing Gerakan’s Mah Siew Keong in the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31.The by-election was triggered by Seah’s death due to cancer on May 1.

The seat has 23,301 Malay voters (38.6%), 25,310 Chinese voters (41.9%) and 11,468 Indian voters A total of 60,349 registered voters consisting of 59,927 ordinary voters, 410 early voters and 12 overseas absentee voters are eligible to vote in the by-election. - May 21, 2014.

MH370 After a week

Updated: Sat, 15 Mar 2014 09:03:02 GMT | By The Malaysian Insider : Malaysia

After a week and some clues, the knowns and unknowns of MH370

It is one of the biggest hunts ever – involving dozens of ships, planes across vast oceans and thousands of people on the Internet searching real-time satellite pictures – but Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is still lost

Malaysia Insider
Malaysia Insider
The Boeing 777-200ER carrying 239 people vanished exactly a week ago, while on an overnight flight to Beijing but a search that began in the South China Sea and slowly expanded westwards to the Indian Ocean has come to nought so far.

There is no debris field anywhere on sea or land on either seas. There is no sign of the wide-body jet with the registration number 9M-MRO on the ocean floor, or perhaps parked at one of the 634 runways within its fuel capacity.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak spoke to families and media today with no news about the plane's fate or location, except to say that the search has now extended from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to the Indian Ocean, and no more in the South China Sea.

As of now, 14 countries, 43 ships and 58 aircraft are involved in the search for the missing plane, whose last contact was 8.11am on Saturday.

Earlier, a Malaysian government official said investigators had concluded that one of the pilots or someone else with flying experience hijacked the missing flight MH370.

Associated Press quoted the unnamed official involved in the investigation as saying that the hijacking was no longer a theory but “conclusive.” But Najib stopped short of saying that.

In the light of Najib’s latest disclosures, the following is what is known and not known about Flight MH370, already called an "unprecedented aviation mystery".

What we don't know:
* The current location of Flight MH370. It disappeared somewhere north of the Strait of Malacca after its last ping at 8.11am, March 8, 2014.
* The condition of all its 227 passengers and 12 crew members.
* The person or persons flying MH370 after it vanished from radar screens.
* The person who switched off the plane's communication links at 1.07am and transponders at 1.21am last Saturday.
* The motive for its disappearance. It still remains a matter for conjecture.
* Whether it is north or south of the Strait of Malacca. The search and rescue mission is now focused on a northern corridor extending from Thailand to Kazakhstan/Turkmenistan and the southern corridor extending from Indonesia to the south of the Indian Ocean.
What we know:
* It isn't in the South China Sea. The search has been called off there despite various discoveries from debris, oil slick to seismic events.
* Its systems were deliberately switched off separately just before it vanished
* It did not enter Vietnam air space
* It had 7.5 hours of fuel left when it vanished
* It didn't crash when it disappeared
* It changed flight path and altitude
* The plane crossed the Malay peninsula at the border with Thailand and was considered as friendly, and therefore not challenged.
* Its last contact from the plane's systems was at 8.11am on Saturday, nearly seven hours after it vanished from radar screens
* There were two Iranians travelling on Italian and Austrian passports stolen from Thailand over the past two years.
* One man had a Chinese passport with the same number as a Chinese man who never left his Fujian province in China.
* Interpol says there are a few passengers with suspect passports
* There were Chinese calligraphers, government servants, holidaying couples, two infants and 20 Freescale electronics plant officials and workers on board the plane.
* It was a code-share fight with China Southern Airlines. The two men travelling on stolen passports had tickets bought together from a travel agent in Pattaya, Thailand, a day before the flight.
* The plane's disappearance has brought attention to rings specialising in stealing and selling stolen passports out of Thailand.
* The pilot is 53-years-old with more than 18,000 hours flying time and has built a B777 flight simulator at home. His house was raided today.
* The co-pilot is 27-years-old with 2,700 hours flying time and who has apparently taken female passengers to the cockpit while flying.
* Malaysia Airlines is one of the world's safest air carriers after Qantas and Singapore Airlines. It has only had two accidents in the past – one was a hijacking. – March 15, 2014.

Makanan yang baik untuk bakar lemak

Best foods for burning-fat (© Getty Images)
Sweet potato
Sweet potatoes are the best food source of antioxidant beta-carotene, a compound that fights oxidative stress and inflammation linked to increased fat storage. Kale and carrots are also good sources of beta-carotene.

Eggs
“It used to be thought that you should avoid eggs due to their high cholesterol content,” says McGrath. “However research now indicates that eating one or two eggs a day will not raise your cholesterol at all. On the plus side, eggs have the highest biological value of protein than any food. This means that eggs support your body's need for protein, helping you to build muscle that in turn helps you burn fat. Eggs are also high in vitamin B12, a nutrient essential for breaking down fat in your body.”

Oily fish
“Salmon and other so-called fatty fish contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are natural fat-burners,” says McGrath. “Omega-3 fatty acids reduce fat mass in your body. Besides salmon, other fish high in omega-3 include mackerel, tuna and herring.”

Grapefruit
Grapefruit has long been thought to promote weight loss. A study found that molecules in the fruit seem to speed up metabolism and reduce appetite. Grapefruit reduces insulin levels, ultimately promoting weight loss.

Oats (unsweetened, unflavoured)
“Oatmeal is another fantastic source of fibre, helping you to feel full longer,” says McGrath. “Oatmeal not only fills you up and helps you burn fat, it also helps remove cholesterol from your system. It’s one of the best breakfasts on the fat-burning foods list.”

Olive oil
“Olive oil helps you lose fat because the high level of monounsaturated fats it contains burn fat and control food cravings,” says McGrath. “Cook with it and use it on salads.”

Peanut butter (all-natural, sugar-free)
“Probably the most surprising of the fat-burning foods, peanut butter can help you lose weight,” says McGrath. “Eat it in moderation and buy only natural peanut butter that doesn't have added sugar. Peanut butter is high in healthy monounsaturated fats that help muscles grow and burn fat. Limit yourself to three tablespoons or less a day.”

Almonds and other nuts
“Nuts, and almonds in particular, help suppress your appetite,” says McGrath. “Eating two ounces of almonds (about 24 nuts) is enough to decrease your appetite. Choose natural, not salted or flavoured, nuts. Instead of just eating them whole, you can add chopped nuts to salads, plain peanut butter, cereal or yoghurt.”

Beans and other legumes
“Due to their high fibre and low calorie content, beans of all types are a fat-burning food,” says McGrath. “The fibre makes you feel full so you consume fewer calories with the rest of your meal. They also contain lots of protein and iron, which also help with fat loss. The best beans are soya beans, pinto beans, chickpeas, navy beans, black beans, white beans, kidney beans and lima beans.”

Spinach and other green vegetables
“Similar to beans, green vegetables are low in calories and high in fibre,” says McGrath. “They help you feel full, so you eat less. Green vegetables that are also very high in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients include spinach, broccoli, romaine lettuce, arugula, watercress, endive and mustard greens.”

Dairy (fat-free or low-fat milk, yoghurt, cheese)
“Calcium is a fat-burning substance, perhaps one of the most powerful fat-burners, and it is found in abundance in dairy foods,” says McGrath. “Calcium not only breaks down body fat, it also helps prevent fat formation. Choose low-fat products such as skim or 1% milk, cheese and yoghurt.”

Coconut oil
Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), the fat which your body prefers to use for energy, making it less likely to be stored as fat. A study showed greater fat loss over a 16-week period when MCTs were consumed instead of olive oil. Olive oil contains other important nutrients but try switch incoconut oil for the occasional salad or stir fryBest foods for burning-fat (© Getty Images)
Green tea
“Green tea contains chemicals called catechins that help you burn fat,” says McGrath. “They not only increase your metabolism so you burn more calories (even when sitting still), they also increase the rate at which your liver burns fat. The recommended amount of green tea for good fat-burning effect is four to six cups per day.”

Vinegar
Some studies suggest that vinegar (especially apple cider vinegar) activates enzymes in your body that break down fat. However, evidence is skimpy. Proponents of the vinegar diet claim that apple cider vinegar boosts metabolism. Other studies have shown that apple cider vinegar helps balance blood sugar levels by lowering the glycaemic index of a meal. This may aid weight loss by preventing blood sugar spikes. Finally, vinegar’s anti-fungal properties can help fight candida, a condition that may lead to cravings for carbohydrates and sugar and therefore to weight gain.

Coffee
“Caffeine speeds up your metabolism,” says McGrath. “Just be certain to skip the heavy cream and sugar or you’ll negate all the benefits of the caffeine. No cappuccinos or lattes!”

Chillies and hot peppers
Chilli peppers contain capsaicin, a compound that heats up your body, burning calories in the process. Chillies contain capsaicin whether fresh, dried, cooked or raw, so get cooking that super-hot curry!

Brussels sprouts
Vegetables including brussels sprouts, broccoli, broccoli sprouts, cauliflower, kale, savoy cabbage and red cabbage contain phytonutrient sulforaphane, a compound that stimulates fat-burning enzymes.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon helps get glucose into the cells faster so levels of your fat-storage hormone, insulin, are decreased.

Garlic
Garlic is a powerful antioxidant, working to decrease your levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that causes your body to store calories as belly fat.

Watermelon
The high water content in watermelon signals to your body that you are full, meaning you’ll eat less. Watermelon also contains the antioxidant lycopene.

"Ia bukan satu fenomena baru.
"Saya pasti fros itu disebabkan oleh suhu lebih sejuk daripada biasa kita alami di Sabah sejak dua minggu lalu," katanya pada Khamis.

Tumbuk Kamalanathan: Umno beri surat tunjuk sebab

Beliau berkata surat itu perlu dijawab individu terbabit, Penolong Setiausaha Pergerakan Pemuda Umno Hulu Selangor, Muhammad Rizuan Suhaimi sebelum tindakan lanjut diambil.

Najib bears the brunt of kangkung remark, report foreign media

"With the government under fire because of price hikes in basics like fuel and electricity, he choose to push back by highlighting a reduction in the cost of the leafy green vegetable kangkung," the BBC said in its report yesterday.

It likened Najib's position to British Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne who both had used a food analogy to "get down with the people". "Moments after a video of the prime minister was posted making the comments, the sarcasm and jokes began to trend on social media in Malaysia,” said the BBC.
The "kangkung" statement was met with much derision by the Malaysian public, as was reported in The Malaysian Insider previously.Netizens took to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to air their frustrations and displeasure with the PM, who was taken to task for being insensitive to the plight of the people following the rising cost of living.

Malaysian comedian Kuah Jenhan tweeted: "While others avoid becoming a laughing stock, we settle for becoming a laughing stalk. Lettuce get to the root of the problem. We have mushroom for improvement." Social media users have also gone to the trouble of remixing Najib's comments, rewording lyrics of popular local songs, and T-shirts are emblazoned with the words "Keep calm and eat kangkung", the BBC said.

"'Kangkung-gate', as it's been dubbed by some, has hit a nerve because many people are struggling with the rising cost of living, and are resentful of what they regard as corruption, and lavish spending by the government," it added.

The 11% increase in petrol prices, 12% increase in sugar price as well as the hikes in electricity tariff and toll, among others, have caused a domino effect, causing the price of other goods to increase.

However, Najib is not the first to have put his foot in his mouth regarding the rising cost of living. Previously, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hassan Malek had called on the people to switch to fish or meat to check the rise in the price of chicken. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, in defending the toll hike, said that motorists could choose to use toll-free roads. – January 15, 2014
